One woman’s skin-care routine is another’s beauty ritual.
American women tend to see skin care from a clinical point of view, while French women often consider their time at the vanity in their toilette as a pleasurable part of their day, says Beth DiNardo, general manager of Darphin US, the American branch of the Paris-based cosmetics company.
“In the American culture, there is a focus on skin care to prevent the negatives,” she says, “whereas in French culture, skin care is a ritual that should be an enjoyable and positive part of the day.”
DiNardo’s suggestions on developing a French-style ritual:
Use cleansing milks instead of soap or other drying cleansers. “French women love rich, creamy cleansers,” she says.
Toning is a step that French women do not skip. Every French woman has a toner – which is supposed to remove residual oil or dirt – in her skin care lineup, according to DiNardo.
Use aromatic oils. French women have long believed in the power of oils to nourish the skin, and the aromatics add to the pleasure.
Take the time to inhale the aromas and warm the oil in the hands before application.

Back on August 5th I attended the BlogHer Conference here in NYC.
Part of the day was meeting different vendors. I do not blog for money per se, I do not ordinarily do reviews, BUT Â I met a few business’s that I said I would try their product and if I liked it I would write a blog post all about it.
First up is a product for all women, who have a period. The product is Brillant pH Tampons, by RepHresh.
I was caught by the Ph in a tampon, what is this. SO I stopped to listen in. Hmm, this is interesting. I move in closer. I was intrigued. Intrigued by tampons, tampons that reduce the usual vaginal pH that occurs during your period. I never heard of such a thing, pH in the menstrual fluid. Its at this point that I ask a question about the pH levels, I had never heard of this and I have been having a period for a long long time.
It was explained to me that ” Blood has a pH of 7.4. The normal non-menstrual vaginal pH range is 3.5 to 4.5. During your period, the presence of blood causes your vaginal pH to increase. Tampons absorb the fluids that cause pH to increase and retain them within your body.”
This I did not know.  I found this most interesting. Did you know that we have a normal vaginal  range of 3.5-4.5 PH  but it increases to 7.4 during our periods?
Read more about Brillant Ph Tampons here:Feminine Protection That Does More…Now That’s Brilliant – Brilliant
- RepHresh Brilliant pH Tampons are available nationwide at Walgreens.
- RepHresh Brilliant pH Tampons are the first and only tampon clinically shown to reduce the usual vaginal pH increase during a woman’s period.
- RepHresh Brilliant pH Tampons provide excellent absorbency and leak protection like traditional tampons. Available in Regular and Super absorbencies.
- RepHresh is the brand that helps woman take control of their feminine health.
- A pH of 3.5 to 4.5 is ideal for beneficial bacteria (lactobacillus) and is a hostile environment for pathogenic bacteria that can cause odor, discomfort and other challenges.
- Blood pH level is 7.4. During a woman’s period, the high pH of menstrual fluids causes feminine pH to increase beyond the normal range.
- Tampons retain the fluids that cause pH increase inside a woman’s body.
- Clinical Studies can be found here:Feminine Protection That Does More
…Now That’s Brilliant!
I was offered a box of the Brillant Ph Tampons to try, I said that I would like to, and I agreed to write about my experience.
That experience took place a week ago,I noticed a difference immediately. I told myself I was not coming to any conclusions until I finished in a few days. I wanted to see how much more absorbent they were. I wanted to see if the odor that seems to occur with my period would be different. I started thinking after that conversation I had at their booth that the change in the Ph could be  the reason why there is always  an odor  associated with my period. And I wanted to see if there was a difference. I DID see a difference in both with the absorbency and with the odor. Both were improved to have made me notice that I liked using Brillant Ph Tampons. You will  too.So give them a try.
